I read the Yelp review for this place for about 3 years before I made my way over there. I sadly lament this mistake now. TLRL: GO NOW!

When one thinks of Southern food, it often conjures up imagery of heavy, carb loaded, give-me-a-happy-heart-attack cuisine. However, what surprised and delighted me about the Press was how healthy and amazing everything tasted.

It was homemade food — just exploding with flavor! The food was some of the best, freshest, well executed, and affordable we’ve found in OKC.

The Ambiance

• Adorable interior with Edison lights and cool brick
• Outdoor patio (dog friendly!) with lots of space and twinkle lights at night.

What to Order at The Press

(Southern Fried Chicken Salad) — The Press Cobb Salad

This salad was a dream. It came with fried chicken on it. And, let me tell you, the fried chicken at the Press is just perfect. It’s light and crispy and not dry at all inside. The sauce on it was spicy buffalo sauce that tasted so good, it was compulsive to eat. The deviled egg on the salad was incredible. (Can a deviled egg be incredibly? Well, yes. Apparently it can.) The romaine was crispy and fresh. It was over all just a total delight. And VERY filling as a dinner entre. Oh, the cherry tomatoes tasted like they were taken off a vine 5 minutes ago too. The dressing tasted homemade and it was also exploding with flavor.

The Short Rib Pot Roast

The Pot Roast at the Press in OKC is like something your grandmother would make. It tastes healthy and fresh and like a wholesome meal. It’s comfort food at its best. The meat is succulent and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes are wonderful. And the zucchini/squash/carrot medley on the side was perfectly seasoned and soft but not over cooked. Yum. The perfectly buttered toast was crispy and also tasted like homemade bread.

The Biscuits and Gravy

If you go to a Southern Food Restaurant, someone has to get the biscuits and gravy. They did not disappoint here. (Thankfully, our group is a lot of sharers — the only kind of friends we can go to dinner with.)

Mash Potato Bowl

The Mash Potato Bowl at the Press in OKC is deceptively simple. How can this simple Southern food be so satisfying? Well, it is. The fried chicken and potatoes are just well done, perfectly seasoned, and balanced. There is art in simplicity and doing things that are basic so well. They don’t cover it up with excessive seasoning, the food itself shines through beautifully.

Tips for Visiting the Press:

• Make a reservation! We went Friday at 7:00pm and there were people waiting an hour. I was glad I made a reservation a week ahead of time.
• Go with friends who share. Everything is so good, you’ll want to do some plate passing.
• Try the drinks! The beers are very affordable here. They have “Neon Sunshine” beer which is one of our favs. Their drinks are unique and in budget for a person who loves cocktails but doesn’t want to fork out big city prices on them.
• They also features a full bar (which is very cute) and we would certainly come back just to hang out and chat there.
• The outside patio is LOVELY! Little chairs on the terrace, trees with lights. If the weather was a smidgeon warmer, we would request to sit there. It’s got an idyllic romantic vibe. Very quaint.
• Visit their website ahead of time to study the delicious options!
• Go hungry! The portions are generous.
